Aprender a contar es una de las primeras cosas que se aprenden en cualquier idioma, lo que sugiere que es importante. Porque, por supuesto, saber decir los números ayuda en muchas situaciones básicas, ya sean relacionadas con el dinero, el tiempo, los lugares, edades, números telefónicos, etc.
Antes de ver la tabla, empecemos por el cero. En inglés es:

Para seguir contando, veamos cómo se expresan las centenas, miles, y millones:

Seguimos hasta el 999,999 y luego empezamos con los millones. Un millón en ingles es “One million“. Como los miles en español, en inglés no los convertimos en plural , pero también no convertimos en plural los millones cuando decimos un número superior a un millón. Seguimos así: “two million“, “three million“, “four million“, “three hundred million” y demás…
Al escribir los números en inglés, utilizamos una coma ( , ) en lugar de un punto ( . ) para separar los miles y los millones.
Utilizamos la siguiente fórmula para hablar de números mayores de cien:
[centenas] + and + [decenas / números minores de cien] (el “and” es opcional)
[millones] [miles] [centenas] + and + [decenas / números minores de cien] (el “and” es opcional)
En esta fórmula puedes notar que en inglés usamos “and” para separar las centenas de las decenas, mientras que en español todos colocan la “y” entre las decenas y las unidades: ciento cuarenta y siete.

198 – One hundred and ninety-eight
276 – Two hundred and seventy-six
430 – Four hundred and thirty
999 – Nine hundred and ninety-nine
1,387 – One thousand three hundred and eighty-seven
13,548 – Thirteen thousand five hundred and forty-eight

Cuando lleguemos a las centenas de millar debemos insertar otra “and” para separar las centenas de las decenas una vez más.
234,429 – Two hundred and thirty four thousand four hundred and twenty-nine
478,023 – Four hundred and seventy eight thousand and twenty-three
1,034,002 – One million thirty-four thousand and two
3,000,000 – Three million
18,370,211 – Eighteen million three hundred and seventy thousand two hundred and eleven
Una última cosa…
Algo peculiar para un aprendiz de la lengua inglesa para un hispanohablante es que podemos utilizar el término “centenas” para números de cuatro cifras hasta el 9.999.
Por ejemplo, 1200 se puede expresa como one thousand two hundred (mil doscientos), o podría expresarse como Twelve hundred (doce seguido de dos ceros).
2500 se puede expresa como two thousand five hundred (dos mil quinientos), o como twenty-five hundred (veinticinco mil).
7300 se puede expresa como seven thousand three hundred (siete mil trescientos), o como seventy-three hundred (setenta y trescientos).
Es muy común escuchar las dos formas.
